Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center will have Sports Medicine Center physicians and physical therapists on site to provide medical services. Easy to spot in their bright red vests, they’ll be stationed along the route and at the PVHMC first aid stations.

Since 2009, PVHMC has cared for Holiday Half Marathon, 5K and Penguin Waddle Kids Run participants with medical needs ranging from blisters, strains, sprains and heat exhaustion. Dr. Duane Styles is joined by SMC Team Physicians and Physical Therapists, head athletic trainers, assistant trainers and student trainers from local schools and colleges such as Cal Poly Pomona, Mt. Sac, University of La Verne, Damien High and Bonita High School.

PVHMC first aid stations will be located at:

  • Start/Finish Line (Main Medical Aid)
  • Mile 4.5
  • Mile 9.5

PVHMC Sports Medicine Center & the Community

Contributing their time and expertise to the community in a variety of ways throughout the year, the SMC Team Physicians and staff from Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center’s Sports Medicine Center provide medical coverage for the Mt. Sac Relays and for local high school football games. They also team with athletic trainers at Cal Poly Pomona and area high school athletic departments to provide pre-participation examinations for student athletes through the “$$$ for Physicals” program. The program has raised nearly $90,000 for high school training rooms.

PVHMC Sports Medicine Center & Its Athletes

The convenience of the specialized sports services provided through Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center makes PVHMC’s Sports Medicine Center a ‘one stop’ location for injury diagnosis and treatment when athletes are hurting. The Sports Medicine Centers services include:

  • SMC Physical Clinic – free injury screenings to athletes of ages (includes injury diagnosis, recommendations for care, and if needed, X-rays.
  • Pre-participation sports physicals for $31
  • An SMC Physician Clinic, held Monday and Thursday evenings at 5 pm at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center in the Physical Therapy Department (appointment required)

PVHMC Sports Medicine Center & Rehabilitation

SMC athletes have access to PVHMC’s state-of-the-art Rehabilitation Department. Here, athletes receive individualized care delivered by experienced and licensed staff familiar with their particular injury. Experts in athletic rehab, PVHMC Physical Therapists are trained to provide services which include injury recovery and return to sport programs, computerized testing, injury prevention and performance enhancement.

PVHMC Sports Medicine Center & Urgent Care

Urgent Care at Pomona Valley Health Centers is open to those who need immediate assistance with sports injuries and illnesses. PVHC Urgent Care staff can also refer athletes to the PVHMC’s Sports Medicine Center and Athletic Rehabilitation Services.

Sports physicals are also provided in the Urgent Care Center for $40. Appointments and walk-ins are welcome. Located at PVHC Claremont and PVHC Chino Hills, the Urgent Care Center offices hours are:

  • 8:00 am - 8:00 pm / Monday-Friday
  • 9:00 am - 5:00 pm / Weekends, most holidays
